Remarks on Modern Internet Browsers

Mozilla, Firefox, Camino and Konqueror are standards-compliant Open Source browsers. Microsoft IE (requires Windows or classic Mac OS), Safari (requires Mac OS X), Opera and Netscape are free Web browsers. To use Omniweb or iCab Pro you must pay for a license.

For security reasons most browser makers recommend to update to the newest version as soon as possible (e.g. for electronic banking). You may want to wait a few days prior to the installation to see if any problems occur.

Popular browser applications usually comply well to W3C standards (HTML, XHTML, CSS, HTTP, ECMAScript: JavaScript and JScript, DOM etc.). The only exception of the big players is Microsoft IE its with Trident engine on PCs because of its current market dominance. Newer rendering engines tend to support Web standards quite well but still not completely.
